Mickey has Izzy call and tell him Julian is awake, which delays the ruling on a mistrial. On the way to the hospital, a hallucination of his father tells him to save Julian. Mickey gets into Julian's room with a waiver to continue the case without the defendant present, and presents signed copies of this to the court. David testifies that Julian gave consent to continue the trial, and Judge Turner allows the trial to continue. Freemann gives the records of Julian's attacker to Cisco. Mickey discreetly shows Bishop the incriminating video, and the investigator begs him not to show it. Mickey calls Bishop to the stand.
On Jan. 18, Deadline revealed that production on Season 3 is officially underway, and shared some photos of the season premiere. Co-showrunners and executive producers Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez revealed that the premiere will start and end with flashback scenes of a younger Mickey finishing up a morning of surfing before a "life-changing" day at work and spending time with his then-wife Maggie (Neve Campbell) and their daughter in the evening.

Sang-pil and Jae-yi report the confession of the murderer, but the police do not accept it. Thus, the law firm begins to look into the hitman's past to find something they can use in court. Jae-yi learns that Sang-pil and others believe that Moon-sook is corrupt. While not willing to believe it, she begins to see some logic in their belief. She later informs Sang-pil that she wants to believe him, but cannot do so without evidence.
Mickey tells Izzy that Jésus Menendez was convicted of killing a prostitute after a witness disappeared. Spooked, Carlin calls off the meeting, and Mickey and Cisco find the bug in Mickey's car, which they leave to avoid tipping off whoever is listening. At Hayley's soccer game, Mickey negotiates a deal for Wyms, but Wyms knows nothing about Trevor's case. Cisco and Lorna track down Carlin, who is pulled over by police and accidentally struck and killed by a passing car. Mickey comforts Maggie after her witness is murdered; they share an intimate moment, and Mickey attends an NA meeting with Izzy.

Jae-yi loses a case due to a judge with bias against women. She confronts him but is insulted here and ends up assaulting him. She is suspended as a lawyer for six months and fired from her job, forcing Abogados caba her to return to Kisung. Sang-pil receives a book with details on the crimes of those in power Kisung. He informs Dae-woong that he will go back to Kisung because of Jae-yi and also to avenge his mother. In Kisung, Sang-pil learns a loan shark firm run by Keum Kang is located in the old office of his mother.

Hayley blames Mickey for Eddie’s death and rejects him. Mickey meets Freemann, who commits to their relationship. The next day, he finds Moya has sent a guard to protect him. Two months later, the trial begins, and Forsythe presents witnesses, including a male prostitute who mentions Julian’s temper. Mickey casts doubt on his testimony and shows it was possible to enter the building without being seen by security cameras. Maggie tells Mickey to give Hayley time. A stressed Lorna receives her bar exam results and finds she has become a lawyer.
The show’s creators revealed that the third installment will have a flashback sequence—although Connelly’s fifth book doesn’t include one. “We decided that a fun (and poignant) way to come into the season would be via a flashback Abogados en Palermo sequence that gave us some insight into how Mickey Haller became Mickey Haller — not just the brilliant criminal defense lawyer, but the husband, the father, and the man that he would come to be.”
